with Parents"
Joanna Hawthorne, Ph.D., Center for Family Research- Cambridge University
In March 2007, Dr. Brazelton participated as the keynote speaker at a three-day conference entitled "Learning from the Baby: New Ways of Working with Parents" hosted by the Brazelton Center in Great Britain at Lady Mitchell Hall at Cambridge University. Almost 200 health professionals and researchers from around the country were in attendance as well as several VIP's including the Chairman of Addenbrookes NHS Trust, Cambridge, Dr. Mary Archer, and several Trustees of the Brazelton Centre. Other speakers at the conference included Dr. Joshua Sparrow, Professor Colwyn Trevarthen, Professor Dieter Wolke and Dr. Joanna Hawthorne.
During the event, Dr. Brazelton and Dr. Sparrow presented the Touchpoints Model to professionals working with children and families, spoke at an Evening for Parents, and participated in a special forum for about 60 NBAS-trained professionals.
The conference successfully attracted a number of sponsors who made charitable donations to the Brazelton Center in Great Britain. The Brazelton Centre is presently exploring the experience of parents in Wales who receive the Neonatal Behavior Assessment Scale (NBAS) at birth. NBAS training for professionals is scheduled to begin in September 2007 as part of this initiative.
